Ingredients
  • Simple Dough Recipe
  • 1 tbs. yeast
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 3 cups flour (1/2 whole wheat, 1/2 all-purpose), sifted plus 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 cup extra flour if needed
Instructions
  1. Mix warm water with yeast and sugar. Set aside for five minutes to proof. Water should be warm, not hot. (110°F)
  2. In a large bowl, mix together 1 cup of the flour, milk, and oil. Then add yeast mixture.
  3. Mix in the 2 additional cups of flour and salt to the flour/liquid mix, until it forms a shaggy ball. Knead for 10 minutes by hand or 6-8 minutes with a stand mixer. If needed, add flour, up to 1/4 a cup, a little at a time. *With the use of wheat flour, you should not need any additional flour.
  4. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes in a warm place. Divide into smaller balls and add desired toppings.
  5. Bake at 500 degrees F until golden.

Tips:

  • If dough feels too sticky to work with, let it rest for a few minutes and come back to it.
  • Use oil or water on your hands to help work dough.
  • Grease baking sheets with butter or olive oil

Toppings

  • Zaatar: Blend extra virgin olive oil with zaatar to make a paste.
  • Cheese: Blend a salty cheese such as Arabic or Halloumi and mix with fresh mozzarella in a 1:1 ratio.
